Book Review- Necklaceology
Necklaceology by Candie Cooper

Candie Cooper's book, Necklaceology- How to Make Chokers, Lariats, Ropes and More is a dramatic collection of necklaces. They are mostly bold assemblages with a modern vintage flair that's a bit steampunk.

The introduction covers the tools, materials and some of the techniques used in making the necklaces. It also explains the various lengths of necklaces with a lovely illustration.

The necklaces cover a wide range of styles, from the very casual Simple choker to the ornate collage like Safe Keeping necklace. There is a very artistic, mixed-media look to a lot of the necklace that I just love. The instructions are clearly written with good photographs, and the projects can be adapted to your personal style easily.

Some of the projects are so easy with such a great visual effect that it took my breath away. The author uses ribbons, wire, yarn, fiber, fabric, beads and other textiles and visually exciting elements in inspiring ways.

My favorite projects are:
Simple- the choker mentioned above- it's a great way to show off a very special focal, or even better, a drilled stone.
Sante Fe Choker- This one for the technique. She used leather and beads for her necklace, I used the same technique on some of my bicycle tire inner tube stash and loved it.
Orion- the palette and effect reminds one of photos taken of space.

It's a lovely book, and most of the projects in it could be done in an evening. There are a few that will take a bit longer, but they are worth the time. The projects and instructions are suitable for beginning jewelry makers. The projects are strung, knotted, wire linked and crocheted. I recommend it for jewelry makers who like working in these techniques.

You can find 3 of the projects from the book, including the Orion Necklace mentioned above on Lark Craft's webpage. Necklaceology at Lark Crafts
