Lenten Resource Guide 2010

As we journey through this most holy season, here are some resources geared to enrich and deepen our Lenten experience.

I enter on this path of repentance so
that in dying to self I might rise to new life.*

Journey Through Lent - As we travel through this penitential season, some Lenten reflections from your editor.

Ash Wednesday - Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. The Season of Lent is a season of penance, reflection and fasting. Learn why we use ashes on this first day of Lent.

Prayer for the Lenten Season - Prayer is an important part of the Lenten Season. Is your prayer life where you want it to be? Read on for ways to strengthen your daily prayer; plus a prayer I wrote to enrich our Lenten journey.

Parish Missions - Parish Missions, sometimes called parish retreats, are valuable tools in renewing our spiritual life and are often offered during the Lenten season.

Pope Benedict XVI's Message for Lent 2010 - From the Vatican website.

The Holy Season of Lent - EWTN's Lenten page offers daily reflections, including a video reflection for current day, links to the Holy Father's 2010 Lenten Message, Audio Lenten Reflections 2010, Stations of The Cross, Fast and Abstinence guidelines and explanation, and Divine Mercy Sunday.

The Lenten Workshop - from Catholic Culture. Offers a wealth of information to enrich our Lenten journey, including information, activities, prayers and hymns for the season.

Ash Wednesday and All About Lent - from the EWTN Library. Two articles by James Akin that address many questions about Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent.

Exploring Lent - from Domestic-Church.com, by Mary Ellen Vice. Offers not only information about lent but also some family activities to do together during the season, including creating a Roap Map to Easter.

Praying Lent 2010 - From Creighton University, this site offers weekly prayers and meditations throughout the Lenten season as well as parish Lenten resources and a Lenten audioretreat with Fr. Larry Gillick.

Meditations and Prayers for Lent and Easter - by Victor Hoagland, C.P. (Editor's Note: this looks like it hasn't been updated for 2010, but it's still a good resource.) Includes meditations for the Passion of Jesus, Stations of the Cross for both adults and children, and many other prayers and meditations for the season.

Buy I Asked Jesus at Art.com

Lord Jesus,
you spoke peace to a sinful world and brought mankind the gift of reconciliation by the suffering and death you endured. I love you and joyfully bear the name 'Christian.' Teach me to follow your example. Increase my faith, hope and charity so that I may struggle to turn hatred to love and conflict to peace.*

Peace in Christ,
Melissa Knoblett-Aman

* Short Lent Prayers taken from Catholic prayers at yenra.com.
