Mysterious Girlfriend X
Mysterious Girlfriend X is an anime series based on a manga by Riichi Ueshiba.
Akira Tsubaki, an average high school student, is the male protagonist in Mysterious Girlfriend X. One day a girl named Mikoto Urabe transfers into his class; she wears her hair in such a way that her eyes are obstructed from the view of others. Mikoto comes across as unsociable after declining to eat lunch with her classmates in order to sleep instead. She ends up getting labeled as "weird" after bursting out laughing in the middle of class for no particular reason.
One day after school, Akira forgets his lunch at school, and goes back to the classroom to retrieve it. He sees Mikoto still sleeping face-down at her desk, and he wakes her up. After she leaves, Akira notices a pool of Mikoto's drool on her desk. For whatever reason, he decides to put some of it on his finger and taste it.
A couple of weeks later, Akira develops a fever and has to stay home from school; however, his fever refuses to break. Mikoto comes to visit Akira and tells him that he's lovesick from tasting her drool, and the fever is due to going without tasting her drool for two weeks. She makes Akira suck drool off of her finger, and he suddenly feels better. The two develop a ritual where Akira tastes some of Mikoto's drool every day. The first episode ends with Akira asking Mikoto to be his girlfriend, and the series follows Akira and Mikoto's developing relationship.
Personally, I was a little grossed out by Akira tasting Mikoto's drool, and how much drool became an integral part of the story. And for the parts of the episode that I wasn't revolted by, I found them to be rather boring.
While there wasn't anything visually offensive outside of the drool in the first episode, I saw a panty shot in the preview for the second episode. After seeing that, I can potentially see this series moving in a direction that's a little less "child-friendly" than it already is in the first episode. Personally, I would recommend Mysterious Girlfriend X to anime viewers who are 15 or 16 years of age and older.
