Rosario + Vampire

Rosario + Vampire
Rosario + Vampire is an anime series based on the manga written and illustrated by Akihisa Ikeda.

The male protagonist of the series is Tsukune Aono, a regular high school freshman who can't get into any private schools due to his poor grades. However, Tsukune's father happens to stumble upon entrance documentation papers for a school called Yokai Academy lying on the ground. He gives Tsukune the papers and he is sent to the school.

After arriving at the school, Tsukune bumps into a girl named Moko Akashiya, who is also a first-time student at Yokai Academy. She claims to be a vampire, but Tsukune doesn't believe her. However, as he sits through his first day of class and the rules of the school are explained to him, Tsukune comes to learn that Yokai Academy is a school created for the purpose of monsters coexisting with humans; however, only monsters attend the school, but they go in their human forms. The monsters are not supposed to reveal what they really are, and any humans found on the school grounds are supposed to be killed without mercy.

During a confrontation outside the school with Moko, Tsukune admits to her that he's a human. He tries to go to the bus stop to return home and go to a human school, but an incident forces Moko to take on her true form to protect Tsukune. At the end of the first episode, Tsukune decides to stay at Yokai Academy, and the series focuses on what happens to him during his time at the academy.

Rosario + Vampire is definitely a "fanservice" show, and there are a number of panty shots of Moko. There is also some hinted at nudity when Moko goes through her transformation into a vampire.

As for the overall quality of the animation for the series, it's rather generic. If it wasn't for the fact that the school is an academy for monsters, this would simply come across as just yet another generic "school anime." However, I do have to give this series credit for pulling off the human going to a non-human school concept a bit more convincingly than other properties in Japan or in the West that have used the same premise.

With all the fanservice included in this series, it's definitely not being aimed at a young audience. Personally, I would recommend Rosario + Vampire to anime viewers who are 17 or 18 years of age and older.
