Screen Clipping and Microsoft OneNote 2010

Screen Clipping and Microsoft OneNote 2010
Microsoft OneNote is a great pro

Microsoft OneNote is a great program for capturing and organizing information from different sources such as email and web pages. There are several different methods for adding information into OneNote including inserting entire web pages or email messages – see link below to prior article with details on these methods. Another method for quickly added information into OneNote is to use a screen clipping which captures a portion of the screen to be added to OneNote.

The advantage of using a screen clipping is that it allows for a portion of information to be added to OneNote instead of an entire page of information. For example, instead of having to add an entire web page in order to save a recipe the screen clipping can be used to only capture the recipe.

Listed below are the different screen clipping options available for OneNote. Happy clipping!

Add Screen Clipping to Notes

  1. Browse to the website or display the information that is to be inserted into OneNote.

  2. Open the page in OneNote where the information is to be inserted and click on the area of the page where the screen clipping should be placed.

  3. From the Insert Menu, select Screen Clipping.

  4.  The screen will turn a transparent white with a selection pointer. Drag the pointer over the content to be clipped until the rectangle covers the area.

  5. After selecting the area release the mouse button to have OneNote insert the selection into the open notes page.

Use OneNote Taskbar to Clip Screen

The OneNote taskbar icon can be used to create a screen clipping without opening OneNote first.

  1. Right-click on OneNote icon in the notification area (right side) of the task bar.

  2.  Select Create Screen Clipping

  3. The screen will turn a transparent white with a selection pointer. Drag the pointer over the content to be clipped until the rectangle covers the area.

  4. After selecting the area release the mouse button to capture the clipping

  5. In the Select Location in OneNote select the location for the screen clipping

  6. Click on Send to Selected Location

Keyboard Shortcut

Another method for quickly adding a screen clipping into OneNote is to press the Windows key + S to start the screen capture. Once the information to be captured is highlighted the Select Location in OneNote dialog appears. Select the location and click on Send to Selected Location.
