The baby animal book is great bedtime reading. Russell Hoban writes in a soothing rhythm. Garth Williams' badger family is cute. Plus, children love books with baby animals. Kids are familar and relate to Frances' desire to postpone sleep.

Bedtime for Frances has been a bedtime favorite for over fifty years. Some parents and grandparents have issues as childrearing has changed over time. Papa badger alludes to a spanking if Frances doesn't settle and go to sleep. However, no spanking takes place in the bedtime story. Also, Papa smokes a pipe. If this concerns a parent or caregiver, stay away. Try other classic bedtime stories such as Goodnight Moon or Time for Bed.
