I love the direction some quilting is taking in this decade. For so long, patterns were just patterns, but from somewhere, somehow, patterns are now sewn together then cut up the middle (or other places), sewn back into new shapes and voila – a wonderful new quilt pattern. I love the innovation of quilters and Nancy Brenan Daniel has certainly been very innovative and inspirational.
Her book Slice ‘Em & Dice ‘Em Quilts is a perfect example of what you can do with the humble 9 patch block. There’s an incredible amount of different patterns that Nancy has come up with, starting with the very simple and humble 9 patch. You’ll be amazed at just how these blocks go together, after being simply cut down the middle or having a simple triangle piece added in a particular spot.
I think my particularly favourite pattern is the Shadow Box blocks, which produces a simply stunning scrappy quilt. All with very little effort it seems.
I suspect the quilter who owns this publication is going to be kept “busy and off the streets” for some time. Enjoy!
