Ikki Tousen
Ikki Tousen is an anime series based on the manga series written and illustrated by Yuji Shiozaki; the manga itself is based on the classic Chinese novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
Ikki Tousen is set in the Kanto region of Japan, where seven schools are waging a turf war for territorial supremacy. The fighters from each school bear sacred jewels called magatama; the jewels contain the essence and fates of warriors from the Three Kingdoms era of ancient China 1800 years ago.
The main character of Ikki Tousen is Hakufu Sonsaku, who is the descendent of Sun Ce. Hakufu is a skilled fighter, but she's also incredibly ditzy; it is her destiny to conquer all of the schools. At the beginning of the series, she transfers to Nanyo Academy, where her cousin, Koukin Shuyu, is a student. Koukin has a lack of confidence, and is shy and well-meaning; he also has a crush on Hakufu.
Other important characters are some of the members of the big four at Nanyo Academy: Shimei Ryomou (a girl with an eyepatch who wears a French maid outfit and uses handcuffs in conjunction with her battle moves), Genpou Saji (a womanizer who goes to any lengths to accomplish his goals), and Gakushu (a large, muscular guy with a scary face but a nice personality).
Ikki Tousen relies very heavily on fanservice, which becomes very evident from the opening credits. There are constant panty shots of the female characters, some hinted at nudity, and Hakufu's large breasts are also highlighted. For the violence portion, I did see some blood during the first episode, and I suspect there would be more as the series progresses.
This is definitely not a series being aimed at a younger audience. Since FUNimation has given Ikki Tousen a TV-MA rating, I can only recommend the series to anime viewers who are 18 years of age and older.
