Presidents Cup Final
I was able to pick up the Presidents cup on Friday night until 1:30 a.m. watching the game that was played on Saturday. Then on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. watch the event that was the final played on Sunday. It was unusual but you could get the event by checking your television program. This event was shown on the Golf channel and was fun to watch the various struggles of each player. They all had their moments of good play and screw ups.
The four ball and alternate shots were amusing as I know those golfers were in places they had never been before. They all played well even Tiger who finally found his putting stroke on the last day in his play off against a player from Australia. The Americans came out ahead on Saturday to end up 13-9 heading into Sunday play. It is always interesting to see how the captains teamed up the players. As Fred Couples said he felt the players should suggest who they wanted to play against as this would make them more comfortable during their rounds. Fred was Mr. Cool as he always is, seems to be without a care and plays golf the same way.
Greg Norman was more nervous and edgy as at first his first four players out that last morning were doing very well. It was the later ones that fell behind early and could not catch up. Playing this match play is quite different than regular play of other events. You can foul up big time on one hole and come back the next to win so one never knows until later in the round just how it will turn out. The American came through with 19 to 15 win to take home the Presidents Cup for 2011. Tiger gave them the winning hole when he scored the final 18th point to give the match to the Americans. I have to mention Jim Furyk as he won all five of his rounds this was amazing. Watching him hole many putts that other golfers had so much trouble with the slick greens was the reason he won all five of his events. He was in the zone.
The next Presidents Cup will be in American in September 2013. We will be looking forward to watching this event too along with the Ryder Cup whenever that one is scheduled. I enjoy watching this type of format in golfing events. It shows how much golfer wants to win for his teammates and country and the prestige of winning. They do have to show skill and strength as three days of grueling two 18 holes per day with the final day single matches for everyone.
