Comedian Gives Back
Jamming Jay Lamont, comedian, impressionist and multi-talented entertainer has announced plans to headline several upcoming comedy shows in Atlanta at Uptown Comedy Club, 800 Marietta Street Northwest, Atlanta, GA 30318. The shows are set for November 1-2 beginning at 8 pm. There will also be a second 10 pm show on Wednesday.
Lamont has also offered to give some of the proceeds of his performance to The Clinton Ron Walker Foundation in support of their efforts for teaching youth how to have healthy hearts. "I just want to support the foundation because this work is so needed for our youth so anyway I can help I want to do that."
Lamont, a former classmate of mine from Langston University, has been performing comedy for years. The son of a preacher was born in Oklahoma City and says he lived a pretty sheltered life. "We had to go to church every Sunday and Wednesday. I use to say 'Dad can I go to the football game' and he would say 'You don't have time for that get ready for church' so it was tough but now I look back on it and appreciate growing up that way."
Lamont states the one thing that saved him was singing in the choir and the pretty girls that were in church. "Not that I was ignoring the Lord but I would say 'Lord did you create these girls? Well thank you Lord for the pretty girls'" jokes Lamont.
After graduating from Langston with a journalism degree, Lamont went on to work at the local radio station. He then moved to Houston Texas where he also was an on air personality at a radio station. One day a gentleman that owned a local comedy club came to the station to purchase advertisement and met Lamont. He asked him to host the shows at the club and that is when the comedy bug bit Lamont. "I think people always knew I was funny and loved impersonating people. So when I hosted the shows I really enjoyed it. It really clicked for me and I said let me go ahead and give this a try."
After that Lamont begin to book shows and has appeared on several television shows performing stand up including; America's Got Talent, BET's Comic View, Comedy Central, Showtime at the Apollo, Russell Simmon's Def Comedy Jam, Byron Allen’s "Comic Unleashed", and Jamie Foxx presents "Laffapalooza".
Lamont has also performed with many great artists including the legendary Luther Vandross and Roger Troutman. As a staple opening performer for several acts including; The Gap Band, The O'Jays, Anita Baker, Ledisi, MAZE featuring Frankie Beverly, D.L. Hughley, Tommy Davidson, Cedric the Entertainer, Mike Epps, Jamie Foxx, Charlie Wilson, and many more, Lamont’s clean comedy style and spot on impersonations is always a crowd favorite.
