Often times, women facing abortion feel isolated and alone, like they are the only people on the planet going through such a difficult time. The reality is that millions of women have abortions, for all kinds of reasons, and it is more than likely you know someone who has had one. In this article, I am writing of the public women who have had abortions and if possible a little about their situations. No matter who you are, you are never truly alone.

Rosanna Arquette, actress- admitted in her 1985 Playboy article that she had, had 2 abortions.

Madonna, actress, and singer- her family alleges in a tell all book that she has had 11 abortions in 25 years.

Marilyn Monroe, actress- reportedly told friends of at least 12. She supposedly had an abortion 15 days before her death, and was pregnant by one of the Kennedy brothers, although she wasn’t sure which one.

Suzanne Somers, actress- had an abortion during a time when it was illegal, in which she bled a dangerous amount over the course of several days.

Sharon Osbourne, actress and music producer- had an abortion after her first sexual encounter at the age of 17.

Ani DiFranco, singer- had an abortion at the age of 18.

Sinead O’Connor, singer- Had an abortion in August of 1990 at 9 weeks pregnant.

*Amy Brenneman, actress- * All signed the “We had abortions” petition for Ms. Magazine issue October 2006.

Cher, actress- admittedly had two abortions.

Margret Cho, Comedian

Gloria Allred, Lawyer- Gloria was raped and had an illegal abortion that nearly killed her.

Joan Collins, actress- pregnant with Warren Beatty’s baby, Joan had an abortion at the age of 23.

Suzanne Gregory, Pro choice writer/editor/forum moderator at Bellaonline.com- Coerced/Forced to have an abortion against my will as a teenager, by my mother. Forced to internalize my feelings, I went on to suffer from post abortion syndrome (a form of PTSD) and chronic severe depression. As a result, I am a staunch supporter of all reproductive choice, as I did not have one. No one wants an abortion. Everyone should have the choice. I wear a purple silicone bracelet everyday that says the words ”I had one”.

Rebecca Walker, writer- daughter of Author Alice Walker who wrote The Color Purple and many other books, had an abortion at the age of fourteen.

Tina Turner, singer/songwriter/actress- Had an abortion in 1968. She also attempted suicide the same year.

Whoopi Goldberg, actress- performed an illegal abortion on herself with a coat hanger in a park when she was 14 years old.
