Member-Guest 2011
After lots of planning and work our LGA President Janet Gravette at Mill Creek Golf Club succeeded it carrying out this tournament by herself. It seems the nominating committee last year could not find a chairman for our tournaments this year so it was left this up to her since the majority of the members decided we needed to have this tournament. Our Pro Matt agreed to set up all the plans, posters but it left Janet to handle all the other details. She is a very creative gal and willing to work at any project that is in front of her. She carried it out in fine fashion.
The plan for this tournament was a two day event with practice rounds on Wednesday for all those who cared to participate. In the afternoon Matt Sommerfield had set up a six hole putting contest on our putting green and those who had signed up to participate. There were score cards and you had to turn into Matt your final score. An appetizer party was carried out that evening were I took pictures of some of the teams present. A showing of purses, jewelry etc was also available for members and guest to enjoy.
Teams gathered early on Thursday morning to register for the event, with Peggy and Gail handling this and handing out the gift sacks. They collected money for the mulligans and door prize tickets that would be drawn at the luncheon after the tournament. A breakfast was arranged by Ruth from the grill and we all had time to relax and enjoy our guests.
Matt gathered us all together to give us final directions and after he handed out our score cards which were all marked with our handicap- and what hole you started on a shotgun format. I had invited a friend Jacque from Star Ranch Golf Club who I had met several years ago and had kept in touch with. I asked her to bring two of her friends as my guest for this tournament. Jacque invited Marie and Mary so that was our team for the tournament. I was happy to meet all of them and we were ready to play golf.
After we finished they turned in our score card to Matt and I left to take my golf cart home and drive over to the Stagecoach Conference room for our luncheon. Janet had arranged this room and a luncheon of chicken salad ingredients plus all the trimmings. A table of chocolate and carrot cake was a good finishing touch to our luncheon. Janet also had a table set up with all the donated door prizes in pretty sacks which made a nice arrangement.
After all the door prize numbers were drawn, Matt came with the poster of all the scores of the teams and he awarded gift certificates to the Pro Shop to the first and second winners in gross also first and second in net. He also gave out the prize for the putting contest, long drive and closest to the pin winners. Pictures of some of the teams were presented in mirrored frames as a table prize for each person. For those who did not get their team picture taken had their frame filled with a picture of Mill Creek Heart of Texas golf hole. The tournament went off well with many thanks to Janet and her creative talent and wiliness to work hard at whatever she does. The gross winners were members Ann and Margaret with their guests from Wildflower Golf Course in Temple, Texas. Ann won the closest to the pin prize while her guest won the long drive contest. Sharon won the putting contest with a putt off of the three winning scores.
