A Mill Creek Celebration
I have been involved in two meetings with our Mill Creek Golf Club Owner. The discussion concerned the destruction and condition of the golf course. After five years of ownership of the course he has had three floods and one tornado, he has stated that if several things need to happen to keep our golf course open. These are very difficult things to hear and at the second meeting that included the Mill Creek Assoc., Chamber members and water department it came as a serious situation that we needed to all work together to find a solution.
At the last meeting it became clear that we needed to alert the community of Salado and the Mill Creek Community Association of the dire situation of the golf course. We felt it was important to have our village newspaper to get the word out plus a newsletter from the Mill Creek Association to notify them how important the golf course is to Mill Creek and the city of Salado. Since I do the newsletter for the Mill Creek Association the President and Director decided we needed to let our residence know how important it is to have the golf course in our community.
One of the ideas our President decided to do was to have our Celebrate Spring at the Mill Creek Club House. We are meeting this week to finalize our plans and I will get out the newsletter in the next couple weeks. We were planning on a date of April 30 on a Saturday evening to have this event. We have discussed on having a putting and chipping contest and give out gift certificates to the winners of both men and women divisions. Our Pro at the Club House has offered to set up a six hole lay out on the putting green. He did this for our Member Guest tournament and it was great fun. He can also set up a chipping contest at the number nine green which is close to the club house.
We thought this would give our Mill Creek residence a chance to see what is available to the people of our community and hopefully acquire some new members. We will need new members to help keep the golf course in operation. It is important to show our community members of the value the golf course is to all of Salado.
We plan to have other entertainment and a BBQ dinner plus a raffle of a large gas patio grill. Our board members will all be willing to help the staff at the club house in getting this event ready and help clean up. We all must be willing to pitch in to see that this event is successful. It is time we all work together to promote the golf course as it is an important part of Mill Creek and Salado. With spring in the air it will be a good time to make people aware of what a good thing they have in the picturesque Mill Creek Golf Club. Let’s all Celebrate Spring together.
