Biography of Kan Tokumaru
Kan Tokumaru was born on May 26, 1941. His credits include voice acting for anime and for video games, as well appearances in live-action.
Tokumaru got his start in anime voice acting in the 1960s by providing the voice for Papa in Paaman. In the 1970s, Tokumaru's credits included Nick Lauda in Arrow Emblem Grand Prix no Taka, Dr. Kiiri in Cyborg 009, Fan Li in Daikuu Maryuu Gaiking, Gabara in Ginguiser, Inspector Deret in Hurricane Polymar, Kashi no Ki Mokku, Kerokko Demetan, Jaguar in Lupin III: Part II, Kukurus Doan and Mosk Han in Mobile Suit Gundam, Father in Robokko Beeton, Sadaharu Oh in Shin Kyojin no Hoshi, Captain Harlock in Space Pirate Captain Harlock, and Pegas in Uchuu no Kishi Tekkaman.
Tokumaru continued providing voices in the 1980s. During this decade, his credits included Ian in Akuma-kun, Nicholas in Alps Stories: My Annette, Aoki Ryusei SPT Layzner, Armored Trooper Votoms, Bikkuri-Man, Hiruka in Fist of the North Star, Mackiverne in Future War Year 198X, Dan Condor in Galactic Gale Baxinger, Inspector Organ in Galactic Whirlwind Sasuraiger, Galaxy Cyclone Braiger, Paeta in Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Miimu Iro Iro Yume no Tabi, Gaia in Mobile Suit Gundam – The Movie Trilogy, Eiichirou Natsuki in Musashi no Ken, Haloli in Once Upon a Time [Windaria], Hare in Rokushin Gattai God Mars, Director in Sengoku Majin GoShogun, Tonbo in Shin Mitsubachi Maaya no Boken, Rand and Shultz in Space Adventure Cobra, Kenkichi's brother-in-law in Student Days, Swiss Family Robinson, Policeman A in Time Stranger, Danton in Vampire Hunter D, and Wanwan Sanjushi.
In the 1990s, Tokumaru's credits included Lord Hebi in Berserk, Nishimura Makoto in Doomed Megalopolis, Director in DT Eightron, Gegege no Kitaro, Douki Kuroyasha in Kabuto and Karasu Tengu Kabuto, President Henry Roosevelt in Konpeki no Kantai, Paeta in Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Overture to a New War, Gonzales in Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Kawamura in Ocean Waves, Gazelle in Ozanari Dungeon: Kaze no Tou, Ringuma in Pokemon, Baregi in Romeo and the Black Brothers, David Ryan in Silent Service, Butler in Tetsujin 28-go FX, and The Golden Dragon in Zenki.
While Tokamaru wasn't as prolific in anime voice acting in the 2000s, he still did have a few credits. His work during this decade includes Patriarch of Hanabishi in Ai Yori Aoshi, Noble in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Captain in Crayon Shin-Chan: Arashi wo Yobu Jungle, the Senior manager of Gin'ei in Millennium Actress, Abe no Seimei in Otogi Zoshi, Control Section Manager in Planetes, Dardanel in Rune Soldier, Chuutatsu in The Twelve Kingdoms, and Retrieval Squad Commander in Wolf's Rain.
Tokumaru's live-action credits are the voice of Saboten-Kaijin in Kamen Rider BLACK and Grifforzar in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. For Japanese video games, Tokumaru provided voices for Darkstalkers, Marvel vs Capcom 2, THE iDOLM@STER, and Street Fighter III.
Sadly, Kan Tokumaru passed away on March 6, 2011 after battling a long illness. He was 69 at the time of his death.
