Library Lovers' Month

Guest Author - Paula Laurita

February is the month to celebrate our love of reading and libraries. Here are some ideas and links.

You can go all out or celebrate simply during Library Lovers' Month. In my school I used our die cut machine and the heart shape die to make enough paper hearts for kindergarten through second grade. The students drew their favorite book character on the heart. The hearts were then used to decorate a bulletin board entitled "February is Library Lovers' Month." You can make additional hearts in pastel colors. Label them with slogans such as, "Books are Sweet," "My Love Speaks Volumes," "You can Book on My Love," etc.

You can have older students use the same heart shape, construction paper, glue, and scrap items to decorate the heart as the cover of their favorite book.

For additional ideas you can visit the Library Support Net site. They have bookmarks you can print, proclamations, poetry, and many great ideas.

Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch, by Eileen Spinelli (Author) and Paul Yalowitz (Illustrator)
In a little town on a wintry day, a postman delivers a mysterious package tied up with a big pink bow to a lonely man named Mr. Hatch.
"Somebody loves you" the note says.
"Somebody loves me," Mr. Hatch whispers as he dusts his living room. "Somebody loves me," Mr. Hatch whistles as he does errands in town. "Who," Mr. Hatch wonders, "could somebody be?"
