Flowers in Feng Shui
In Feng Shui, flowers bring good luck and positive energy into a home, and therefore are the ideal symbol. It is always preferable to surround yourself with fresh, colorful, living flowers. However, when this isn’t possible, it’s certainly acceptable to use high quality silk flowers or images of flowers. However, it’s best to avoid surrounding yourself with dried flowers since they represent dead energy.
Below are some of the more common symbolic uses of flowers in Feng Shui, and the areas of your home where they are best displayed. While you can certainly display beautiful flowers in any area of your home, if you match the symbolism of flowers with the specific Feng Shui bagua areas of your home, their power can be even more effective as Feng Shui cures. The bagua is the mapping chart used to divide your home into areas that relate to aspects of your life, such as wealth, love, and health. You can find information about using a bagua map at the end of this article.
Peony. A beautiful flower with a delightful scent, the peony is used in Feng Shui to represent and attract love and romance. A classic Feng Shui cure to attract or fix a relationship is to display a pair of pink peonies in a beautiful vase. This can also be easily accomplished by hanging artwork that shows a pair of these flowers in your bedroom or relationship area of your home, as indicated by the bagua chart.
Lotus. The lotus flower symbolizes perfection, and therefore is related to a harmonious household. Hang an image of a lotus in the Harmony area of your home to assure positive family communication.
Cherry, Dogwood, or Peach Blossoms. Blossoming flowers are associated with freshness and new beginnings, especially blossoms from these particular trees. Display images of these beautiful blossoms in the Health area of your home.
Orchid. The orchid is considered a symbol of fertility, especially in Classical Feng Shui. Because of its natural symmetry, the orchid is also a symbol of the search for perfection, spiritual growth, and purity in life. Place an orchid in the Helpful People area of your home.
Narcissus. The energy of the narcissus flower is associated with the “flowering” of talents and abilities, and therefore is associated with career success. A white narcissus flower in Feng Shui is known as a career cure, believed to help you get rewarded for hard work. Display images of this flower in the Career area of your home, or in your office.
Chrysanthemum. The chrysanthemum is considered a Feng Shui symbol for a balanced and easy life, and is therefore an appropriate flower to display in the center of your home which is the Balance area. This flower has strong yang energy, and is associated with attracting good luck to your home.
When you choose a flower symbol, it’s important to remember that if its energy doesn’t resonate with you, it isn’t going to help you attract what you want. Therefore, it's best to display flowers that appeal to you in color, scent, form, or how they relate to your own cultural background and experience.
