Steve Irwin Day - November 15
If you are travelling to Australia in November, you might want to consider organising your tour of Queensland around the 15th November. This date is the day we celebrate the amazing crocodile hunter and wildlife conservationist - Steve Irwin, who died tragically, doing what he loved best in September 2006.
Steve’s legacy continues with the continuation of his conservation efforts by his family and business.
Australia Zoo, situated on the Sunshine Coast, continues to go from strength to strength and with the help of corporate sponsors and individuals, Steve’s vision of providing education and understanding to the general public, about animal conservation continues today.
Free Bus services are available from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast each day, departing early and returning at the end of the day. The trip is only about 1 hour, so gives you a chance to get your camera and video camera ready, don your sunhat and prepare for an awesome day.
Here in Australia we celebrate the life and legacy of Steve Irwin by establishing a Steve Irwin Day, annually on the 15th November. 2012 sees a number of events that his admirers and supporters can take part in, raise funds for and basically have a “crikey” sort of day, all in the aid of animal conservation.

Some of the events that you can be part of include:
Khaki it! This is where your exhibitionist side can come out. Wear Khaki color for the day. Have a gathering of friends who all wear Khaki for the day, and contribute a gold coin to the Wildlife Warriors program at the Australia Zoo.
There will be a free Aussie Breakfast at the Zoo on the 15th November and it promises to be a hoot from start to finish.
Popular musician and environmental activist Xavier Rudd will be performing live during the day. Xavier is a great example of a Wildlife Warrior who not only puts his money where his mouth is, but is a great ambassador for wildlife conservation around the world. While you’re there, check out his fantastic didgeridoo playing.
Kids will be catered for during the day at Australia Zoo with a Khaki-it Kids Chill-out Zone set up for the little possums with live performances, cooking demonstrations and lots more.
Other activities include Possum Box Making, Seedling Planting, Oz Mosaics workshop, free face painting and colouring in competition. All in celebration of the life and legacy of Steve Irwin.
