One of the summers hottest TV shows on Monday nights on TNT is The Closer. Kyra Sedgwick (The Woodsman , Loverboy and Cavedweller) plays Deputy Police Chief Brenda Johnson. She was an Atlanta detective who is CIA-trained, brought in to head up the Priority Murder Squad. Many of the detectives are unhappy that she has jumped over them into the position, her attitude and matter a fact way she does her job rubs the other detectives the wrong way too. Imagine a southern woman in a male dominated department.

Kyra’s character will do what ever it takes to get to the truth and always seems to get to the heart of the matter. In the episode I caught, she was investigating a murder of a Russian prostitute with a damaging client book. Through a thorough investigation she uncovers that this wasn’t the only working girl killed. The murder of the working girl is being protected by the FBI, because he is helping the FBI investigate his family, the Russian Mafia. Will this murder go on killing, working girls or will he meet justice? While interrogating the suspect she lets it slip that he was with the FBI when the second girl was murdered, knowing that his family would have him killed. Everybody isn’t happy but, Kyra’s character feels justice was paid.
