Southeast Asia’s Top Destinations
There is apparently no definitive answer to what are the seven wonders of the modern world. Of course, the answer is highly subjective and can cause a heated debate. It's just as difficult and as controversial to identify a region's top 10 destinations. There are tourism agencies, travelers and proud locals who all argue that their own personal favorites should be on the list. At any rate, I have below four Top 10 Destinations in Southeast Asia: a must-visit for any traveler in this part of the globe.
1) Phuket, Thailand
One of southeast Asia's most visited province, Phuket is unique in that it offers both the comforts of the modern world and the peace & tranquility that proximity to nature brings. Once you get tired of lazing in your hammock by the beach, there are many other activities available such as boat parachuting, mountain trekking, sailing and elephant trekking.
2) Palawan, Philippines
Palawan, the location of James Bond's Tomorrow Never Dies, is the Philippine's last ecological frontier. Blessed with white sand beaches and crystal blue waters, it is also home to the world's longest underground river.
3) Bali, Indonesia
Bali is paradise from its beaches to its hills. It is popular among beach lovers but the other parts of the island are just as idyllic: scenic rice terraces, active volcanoes and ancient temples. It also boasts a community with very rich culture.
4) Kota Kinabalu
A climb up Mt. Kinabalu, the mysterious 4102-meter (& still rising) mountain beckons many climbers from around the globe. But that is not all there is to this town in Sabah. Other attractions include the Kinabalu Park, a tropical rainforest where the world's largest flower, Rafflesia, can be found, the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, five nearby islands with exotic animals as well as excellent diving and snorkeling, and the house of skulls (morbid I know!), which showcases what is left of the ancient practice of head hunting.
