SlimFast Succeed Low Carb Bar
Using the "If you Can't Beat Them, Join Them" mentality, SlimFast has begun marketing low carb bars under the name Succeed. Do they succeed in flavor?
I tried the chocolate peanut butter bar. These are 1.12oz, maybe the size of two kit kat pieces side by side, and the same height. They have a thin chocolate coating over a crunchy/chewey interior. The chocolate coating is good, with a nice, dark chocolate flavor. The interior is sort of the texture of a granola bar without the big pieces of flake in it. There is a mild peanut flavor, but not much.
The bars have 15% of a variety of vitamins and although the total carbs are 18g, once you subtract the fiber and sugar alcohols they claim the effective carbs are down to zero. They use maltitol and have the traditional laxative warning on them, if you eat 10-thousand of them.
I'm not worried about the maltitol, I eat tons of snacks with maltitol without any problem. However, the bar just isn't that tasty to me. It's not hefty enough to be a real "snack" and there isn't enough flavor to make it a "treat". It's not that it's *bad* exactly ... but with so many GOOD options on the market, I'm not sure that I would voluntarily reach for this one.
