Accel Low Carb Light Beer
Accel is a low carbohydrate light beer from the makers of Saranac. It has only 2.4g of carbs and 89 calories, perfect for low carb diets.
Like all low carb beers, there are less carbs than regular beers (which average 11g per bottle). That equates to a less rich flavor and mouth feel. The Accel is definitely light tasting, but in a light and fresh way, not a watery way. The drink is on the bubbly / spritzy side. Good flavor, not bitter, with a good finish.
I enjoyed this very much with a low carb burrito.
Serving: 12oz
Carbs: 2.4g
Calories: 89
Alcohol: 4.0%
2010 Update
I wrote this review in 2003 and for a long while Accel was a great beer, with many of my visitors chiming in about how much they loved Accel. However, it appears as of 2010 that Saranac is no longer making the Accel beer.
I am writing them to verify that this is true, but from their website it appears that Accel is no longer in production.
Their response:
Dear Lisa:
Thank you for your e-mail. We actually stopped producing Accel Low Carb a few years ago. The demand was not significant enough to continue production and so we had to make a decision to discontinue it. I’m sorry to disappoint your visitors!
We’re not sure if we will try that again someday but if you periodically checkout our website for updates you can see what we are up to.
Again, sorry for the inconvenience.
I'll let you guys know if they end up producing a low carb option again!
2014 Update
Confirmed that the beer is just not available any more.
