Starting a Free Blog with Tumblr
Do you have special knowledge that you’d like to share with the world? Would you like to have a place for family and friends to check in on you and see what you’re doing and what you’re thinking? Writing your own blog might be the solution for you! There are many places where you can create your own blog and jump feet-first into the social networking world.
There are many sites that you can use to create your free blog. Your choices include Blogger, Tumblr, Wordpress, Weebly and more. My personal favorite is Tumblr. Tumblr is a great choice to start your online blog. Once you create your login information, you will be directed to your Dashboard. Your Dashboard is the “hub” of your blog. From your Dashboard you can post information, add pictures, add links to other websites, add videos and more.
I also like the fact that you have the option to preview your information before you post it. If you decide to use Tumblr, you can use the domain name that is assigned to your webpage which would be https://whateveryourchoose.tumblr.com. The “whatever you choose” part would be replaced by whatever you decide you want your page to say. In my case, I used my name. You also have the option to direct an existing domain name to your Tumblr page in which case the entire page address would be personalized.
Pros
Tumblr’s interface is very easy to use. The word processing part utilizes WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get). This means that you can use popular word processing options like bold and italic in your text. Also, Tumblr is compatible with Google AdWords so if your blog becomes popular, you can generate extra income.
I also like the fact that Tumblr subscribers can choose to "follow" other blogs. If some follows your blog, your Tumblr posts will automatically show up when they log into Tumblr.
Tumblr also has built-in interfaces with Facebook and Twitter so you can choose to have your Tumblr posts automatically update to your other Social Networking sites.
Cons
The free templates for Tumblr don’t allow a lot of freedom for customizing. You can change small behind the scenes things however the built-in theme options with Tumblr aren’t very diverse.
All in all, if you are looking for a quick and simple way to launch a blog, I recommend Tumblr.
