The name Graham comes from a Scottish surname that originated as an English place name. The place name probably meant either "gravel homestead" or "gray homestead," though there are other possibilities.
One famous bearer of the surname was Sylvester Graham (1794-1851), inventor of the graham cracker. The cracker he created as a health food is quite different from the graham crackers we see today on supermarket shelves.
In the U.S., the name Graham has been consistently (if just moderately) popular: it was ranked 409th for baby boys in 2005.
