Bad Sweater Christmas Party

Bad Sweater Christmas Party
Every year we get them: Whether it be a gift from a fashion-challenged relative, a friend with a wicked sense of humor, or a clueless spouse, we wind up with a sweater so vile, the only suitable environment for showing it off is the darkest depths of the closet floor.

Until now!

Clean the mothballs out of your Christmas sweaters and read on for tips on throwing a bad sweater party.

The Invitation:

A casual invite for this casual party will do. Use e-vites or pre-printed bulk paper invitations. If party-goers will be traveling to attend, be sure to send invitations a few weeks in advance.

The Dress:

Bad sweaters in all shapes, colors and sizes. Bonus points if the sweater is homemade.

Setting The Scene:

Plan the party to be casual, so go with a buffet/snack style set up for serving guests. As this type of party will mainly be thrown during the Christmas season, you will most likely have decorations out already. Focus on creating a decorative serving table. Set up a buffet style spread of party foods (suggestions to follow). Include a separate table for party favors.

Party Favors:

Do a "gag gift" version of a white elephant gift exchange. Have all guests bring a $10-15 gag gift (be sure to specify if the gifts should be kept in good taste). Vote on who has worn the worst sweater (first, second, third, etc) and allow people to pull a gift from the table accordingly. Take turns opening and showing off the bad gifts.

Music:

Festive or humorous Christmas songs played at a low volume to encourage mingling.

Party Games:

Play "Name The Christmas Movie"
-Divide into two or three teams depending on how many guests you have.
-Have each party guest pick the name of a Christmas movie out of a jar and give three clues about the title.

Food Ideas:

Easy to make party foods

Sausage Balls
Jalapeño Poppers
Cubed ham with pineapple
Pork chop strips with pear
Classic holiday fruit salad
Shrimp Bread
Any type of meat/fruit/vegetable skewers
Twice baked potato halves
