Preparing for Your Honeymoon Vacation
You have dozens of things to do before your ceremony and receptionupdate seating arrangements, confirm flower delivery, pick up tuxes, prepare party favors.
Add to your many duties, prepping and packing for your honeymoon.
Heres a checklist of things you dont want to forget to do before your honeymoon departure. Print the list out and divvy up the jobs with your fianc!
At least six months before your honeymoon
Apply for passports or renewals, if needed. Some countries dont let you enter if your passport is set to expire within six months of your visit, so make sure your passport is current. (See Related Links below.)
Apply for any needed tourist visas.
Research and get any vaccinations you may need for the trip.
At least one month prior to your honeymoon
Confirm all travel arrangementsdouble check flight times, hotel reservations, car rental, etc.
Make dinner reservations at your destination, whether thats your resort or in town.
Ensure that your resort, B&B or cruise ship knows that you are traveling honeymooners. Often the hotelier will give you some nice perkswhether thats an upgrade, complimentary champagne or fruit basket in your room.
Ask a neighbor, or hire a service or housesitterto feed your plants and pets. Or make a reservation at your kennel for your dog.
Arrange for lawn service at your home, if needed.
Have your mail held at the post office, or have someone pick it up for you, if you dont want it overflowing in your mailbox while youre gone.
One week before your honeymoon
Pack! (See Related links below for a checklist of things to bring.)
Confirm your transportation to the airport. Whether youre taking a hotel shuttle or taxi, or a friend or family member is taking you.
If youre driving to your honeymoon location, print out directions provided by the resort (or use Mapquest.com). Get your car serviced before your vacation, or at least make sure youre oil changes are current. Put a good road map in your car.
Arrange for someone to take your gifts from the reception site to your new home (or other place for safe keeping).
Try to clean your house or apartment so its sparkling on your return.
Go to the bank for a handful of small bills for tipping along the way.
Photocopy your passports and all travel documents and keep them separate from your originals when you pack.
Day before your honeymoon
Confirm flight timesagain. Have a trusted friend do this for you if you think youll forget!
Set your lights on timers or dimmers to give the illusion that youll be at home.
If youre driving, gas up!
Take all garbage out of your house. Put clean sheets on your bedits so nice to return to a neat home.
