Quake 3 - Revolution
The Quake series has been around for years, and for many it represents the ultimate in first person fragfest. With Quake 3 Revolution, the newest Quake engine is brought to the popular Playstation 2 console.
The graphics are great, and the dark-and-nasty sci fi atmosphere is extremely well done with glowing lights and zapping electricity. The music is a boppy rock riff to keep you energized. There really isn't much of a plot here - you simply grab some armor, carry around whatever weapons appeal to you the most and blast away!
You can even play up with three other friends if you don't mind little cube-screens. There's no online version of this for the PS2 unfortunately. Maybe that'll be fixed with their next release. In the meantime you can still have a blast by having friends over for the afternoon or weekend and blast away.
The game definitely brings back memories of playing Doom with friends for days and days, creeping around corners to blow them up. This game isn't about elaborate plots to rescue hostages or decoding secret messages. It has long load times and not much brainpower needed. But still, that's what it's there for. It's the simple fun of blasting your enemy, and then running and screaming while he chases you down for revenge. Sometimes it's great just to release your aggressions - and this is the game!
