Book Review - Legs Talk
According to D.E. Boone, it’s best to let your legs do the talking. At least that is the message one can expect to receive when flipping through her book, Legs Talk. By dishing the dirt on dating from the perspective of a pair of talking legs, D.E. Boone’s picture book certainly takes a rather unique and comical approach to the subject. The book is designed so that it looks as though a pair of feisty legs is reminiscing about a dating experience with a “leg man”. Every photo in the book is captured in black and white and portrays the star legs of the show in a variety of suggestive poses that go with the story line, which is told through brief captions and statements that are shown opposite the photos.

Despite its unique angle and series of somewhat humorous photographs, I have to admit that I was not particularly impressed by the book and am not sure that it would make such a great novelty gift item or coffee table book, which is how it is primarily being promoted. While I commend the originality of D.E. Boone’s idea, I do think that the final product could have used a bit more substance. I recognize that a pair of talking legs can only have so much to say about dating and its often humorous dilemmas but when I rate the value of dating resources such as this, I guess I simply expect to find more than the opportunity for a brief chuckle here and there.

Overall, the book is not a total failure. It does include some clever photographs and amusing banter but in my opinion, the fun factor of Legs Talk simply doesn’t have what it takes to live up to its list price. In today’s floundering economy, money talks louder than legs do so if this book is to compete effectively in the dating market, it will need to do so from a more economical starting point. Priced at $9.95, I wouldn’t recommend it as a must-have dating resource but if it were more reasonably priced (let’s say half of the current list price) then perhaps it would make a decent novelty gift for a friend with an affinity for sassy legs.
