American Girl - Samantha's Cooking Studio
In Samantha’s kitchen in the early 1900s it seems very different from your kitchen today. However, at that time they feel like their cooking is now faster and easier than before.
Samantha’s Cooking Studio is an American Girl publication by American Girl authors.
Samantha’s house has a kitchen with running water and a gas stove and an icebox! You will learn about the lavish meals prepared and presented in her day. As you read the book and try the recipes in Samantha’s Cooking Studio you will learn about kitchens, cooking and growing up in the early 1900s. Imagine what it must have been like to have servants and a cook and scullery maids and a butler and all sorts of other people working in your home. Etiquette was very important and it was as essential to know how to set a table and where to place each fork as it was to know which fork to use for which type of food or course of the meal.
Some breakfast dishes you can learn to prepare: Strawberries with Cream, Ham Slice, Cheese Omelet, Saratoga potatoes, and Blueberry Muffins. In the evening a formal dinner will be served with gleaming silver and the glitter of crystal: Cream of Carrot Soup, Roasted Beef Tenderloin, Mashed Potatoes, Fresh Green Beans, and And Corn Oysters. Some of Samantha’s favorite foods were: Apple Brown Betty, Jelly Biscuits (like a filled cookie), Cream Cheese and Walnut Sandwiches, Chicken Salad Sandwiches, and Gingerbread. At Christmas time Samantha would help make houses out of hard gingerbread. They would use gumdrops, sugar wafers, caramel squares and honey sticks for decorations.
Now you can be the cook. You have the chance to discover what foods Samantha like to cook. With more than 20 easy recipes get ready to show off your cooking skills. Samantha's Cooking Studio also includes a cookie cutter, 20 Table Talkers, and 10 reusable Place Cards.
Note: All American Girl books are from my personal library.
