Feng Shui Green Spring Cleaning

Feng Shui Green Spring Cleaning
When the warmer weather gives you the urge to start your spring cleaning, this year try using a few Feng Shui green spring cleaning tips to move out old energy. Cleaning and clearing out at the change of seasons is always a good Feng Shui idea, and a Feng Shui green spring cleaning ranges from such simple things as opening your windows and airing out the house, to using eco-friendly cleaning products that don’t destroy positive chi.

Many products that make a home clean are not especially good for our environment. However, you can create your own Feng Shui green cleaning products like these that will do the job and support the environment at the same time --
Countertops Cleaner: Make a mixture of warm water, eco-friendly dish soap, and baking soda.
Carpet and Rug Cleaner: Sprinkle dry cornstarch or baking soda on your carpet and vacuum to instantly freshen them; blot stains with a mixture of vinegar and soapy water.
Mildew Remover: Make a paste of vinegar and salt and apply to the moldy area.
Furniture Polish: Combine 1/2 cup lemon juice and 1 cup of vegetable oil, olive oil, or mayonnaise.
Drain Cleaner: Pour a half-cup of baking soda down the sink and add a cup of vinegar. Cover the drain and wait a few minutes, then rinse with a mixture of boiling water and salt.
Window Cleaner: Mix two ounces of vinegar with a quart of water in a spray bottle.
Silver Polish: Put a sheet of aluminum foil into a plastic or glass bowl, sprinkle with salt and baking soda, then fill the bowl with warm water and soak your silver.

When you start your Feng Shui green spring clearing, don’t forget to clear out dark corners and clean in those easy-to-forget places, like behind and on top of your refrigerator, using these and other environmentally-friendly cleaners. Then, on the first warm day, open up your windows and let in fresh new chi. Outside, sweep your deck, patio, or porch to get rid of dead leaves, dust, and cobwebs. Uncover the chairs and barbeque grill and clear the way to start using the space again.

Look around your home for any blockages, such as furniture and objects in a room that you have to walk around, and reposition them. Move out anything that is stored under your bed to let the fresh chi circulate. You can also get rid of things that you didn't use during the past year and donate them, trash them, or sell them. If you have lots of unfinished projects in the garage, basement, or attic, spring is the perfect time to finish them or clear them out, because unfinished projects represent issues in your life you are trying to avoid.

Here are 10 more of my favorite Feng Shui green spring cleaning tips:

1. Your front door is where all the positive energy enters your home, so spring clean the wood and glass and lubricate the hinges.
2. Windows are the "eyes" of your home, so clean your windows so you won’t be looking at your life through a dirty lens.
3. If your ceiling fan is located directly over your bed its "drilling" energy could cause pain or illness, so before you start using it again, hang a crystal from the fan or use a crystal pull chain to balance this cutting force.
4. Remove all the things you are storing behind your doors to make sure they open smoothly and completely and welcome new opportunities into your rooms.
5. Fix all leaky faucets since they symbolize your wealth slowly dripping down the drain and out of your life.
6. Clean out your wallet when the season changes, because a messy wallet symbolizes disregard for your wealth, and a neat one attracts prosperity.
7. Move your cleaning supplies out of the kitchen and pantry, since storing them in this location symbolizes cleaning out your good health.
8. Clear the clutter in your basement so healthy energy can circulate underneath you and provide a strong, supportive foundation.
9. Keep the fireplace flue closed in the warmer weather and place a plant or candles in it when not in use to keep from losing positive chi up the chimney.
10. Spring clean your plants by pruning, shaping, and removing any dead leaves; if you have silk plants be sure to dust them, or if they look faded, replace them with an easy to grow plant like lucky bamboo.
