More Than Soap – Possibilities Under The Soapmaking Umbrella
When you visit the craft store and you’re looking in the soapmaking aisle, usually there are lots of other, but related, items there too. The realm of “soapmaking” seems to be expanding all the time. It really encompasses the entire “bath & body” arena. You can also see a lot of additional products bath and body products at some of the best-known online suppliers as well.
So, what exactly are some of the products that you can expect to be included in the bath and body arena? Think of it this way, if it goes on your skin or hair it’s part and parcel to the bath and body spectrum. Everything from handmade soap, lotion and bath salts to lip balm, shampoo and homemade perfume can be found within the realm of soapmaking.
You can also have multiple layers of knowledge within soapmaking as well. Someone who simply just wants to have a bit of fun and dabble with a hobby can do lots of different items under the soapmaking heading. Someone who wants to help alleviate their over strapped budget can also find tons of helpful recipes for items that can be made a lot cheaper than they can be bought as a soapmaker. There’s yet another layer of soapmaking that combines herbalism and aromatherapy for healing properties to add to the spectrum as well. It’s just a matter of what you, the soapmaker, want to try and how creative you want to be.
To give you some idea of what kinds of items you can find in the soapmaking arena here’s a short list:
Soap, lotion, lotion bars, bath salt, salt and sugar scrubs, bath oil, bubble bath, milk bath, body butters, body powders, massage oils, shampoo, conditioners, skin cleansers and tonics, lip balm, facial masks, shaving cream and soaps, pet shampoo’s and soaps, air fresheners, sachets, potpourri and oils, homemade perfumes, and still more.
With all those different possibilities, the answer has to be “yes”, there is a lot more than just soap to soapmaking.
