Quilt Blocks of the States - Missouri Daisy

Missouri Daisy- 12" Quilt Block

The next block in our state block series is Missouri Daisy. This block is typically pieced with set-in seams, but I've simplified it with paper-piecing.

Fabric Key:

Cutting Instructions:

  • Cut one 7" square (A1)
  • Cut four 2" x 7" rectangles (B1, C1, D1, E1)

  • Cut four 3-1/2" squares.

  • Cut four 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" rectangles (A2, A4, A6, A8)
  • Cut eight 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles (A3, A5, A7, A9, B2, C2, D2, E2)
  • Cut four 3-1/2" x 8" rectangles (B3, C3, D3, E3)

Sewing Instructions:

Step 1: Print out the paper-piecing foundations by clicking here. (This is a PDF file and will require Adobe Acrobat Reader to open.) Trim around each of the 5 units about 1/8" outside of the dotted line of the seam allowance. Paper-piece each unit using a very short stitch length setting on your sewing machine. When you've finished paper-piecing each unit, trim away the excess fabric and paper by cutting along the dotted line of the seam allowance. Carefully remove the paper from the back of each unit. Not sure how to paper-piece? Try our Foundation Paper-Piecing Tutorial for Quilters to learn how!

Step 2: Arrange the sections as shown below and sew into rows (Diagram 1). Sew the rows (Diagram 2) together to finish the block (Diagram 3) .

Your block should measure 12-1/2" on all sides. It will measure 12" finished size when it is sewn into a quilt.
