Looking for ways to beat the summer heat while having fun? Here are some terrific activities both you and your son will enjoy…
Lemonade Here! Who doesn’t love an ice-cold glass of lemonade on a hot summer day? Setting up a lemonade stand in your neighborhood is a great way for your son to not only make some extra cash, but also it will allow him to practice his math skills (making change, measuring ingredients). Whether you sell freshly-squeezed lemonade, or store bought, it’s bound to sell out fast, so be sure to stock up on plenty of supplies like paper cups and ice. A simple folding table will work great as a stand, and your son can hand-paint the signs advertising his new business!
Create A Backyard Beach! You don’t have to sit in miles of summer traffic to get to this beach! If you don’t already own a sandbox, just rip open heavy-duty trash bags (the amount depends upon how large you would like your beach to be) and place them in your yard. Then pour sand on top (bags of sand can be purchased at many home improvement centers). Don’t forget to bring out your beach chairs, towels and umbrella, too! Invite the neighborhood kids over for a sandcastle-building contest.
Keep Cool In The Kitchen! When thinking of places to stay cool, the kitchen is not normally the first room that comes to mind. But, you and your son can have hours of cool fun in your kitchen with these great recipe ideas. Fruit smoothies are not only delicious, but healthy, too! Depending on his age, you may need to give him a hand with cutting the fruit and using the blender. Jell-O is also a terrific treat. There are tons of great recipes to choose from, and they’re easy to make.
Start A Collection! Visit a museum or your local library to view all the exhibits they have to offer. Then, help your son think of ideas for his own collection. The possibilities are endless! Stamps, rocks, seashells, toys, and baseball cards are all easy and fun collecting suggestions. Once he has his collection started, assist him in setting up a place in your home where he can display the collection. Have friends and relatives over to view his exhibit!
