Woman travels Alaska - Book Review
The year is 1899, and a woman has decided to travel alone to Alaska to stake her claims for gold.

Winters in Alaska
Alaska is a beautiful state. There are so many ways to see it. Cruise ship, train, helicopter, driving, boating, hiking, and camping all from late May to September. But what do you do in the winter? Believe it or not, you can do quite a bit.

Tourism Season
From the first of May to about the third week in September, Alaska adds over 1.5 million people to its shores. So where do you begin? Alaska has so many opportunities to enjoy its history, beauty and rich culture, how can you possibly narrow down all of the choices?

Totem Poles
It’s tough being low man on the totem pole. Or is it? Depending on the tradition of the native carving a particular pole, the bottom image may in fact be the most important. And not a man! The Inside Passage Region of Alaska is a great area for discovering the significance and beauty of totem poles.

Tongass National Forest
The Tongass National Forest is large. 16.9 million acres large. 80% of the Southeast or Inside Passage Region falls within the Tongass. It is the largest National Forest in the United States and the world’s largest temperate rainforest. That's large!

Tisha-Book Review
Tisha is the story of a 19 year old teacher, who goes to Chicken, Alaska to teach. A cheechako from the lower 48, the bets are running she won't last through the first cold snap of the winter. Tisha is stronger than she appears.

There's No Place Like Nome
What do you think of when you hear Nome Alaska? If you’re like the rest of us, you think cold, snow, and ice. You might think of gold. You probably think Iditarod. But have you ever thought birding? How about sea cruises? Gift shopping Native Alaskan art? How about swimming? Read on.

The Potlatch Ceremony
The Potlatch is a very important ceremony for the native groups in Alaska. It was given for any number of reasons including; death in family, naming of children, raising totem poles, or building and blessing of new homes.

The Forgotten War in Alaska
The only United States soil occupied during World War II, was Attu and Kiska Islands in Alaska. The Japanese felt that the United States might try to invade them from the islands! Total American troop casualties from these battles, were second only to the numbers at the battle of Iwo Jima.

The Abundance of Marine Life
Ever wonder “why Alaska”? The Inside Passage, Denali, Prudhoe Bay, and artic chill come to mind immediately when you think of Alaska. But the state is also a huge breeding ground for birds, whales, sea lions, seals and other marine life.
