I subscribe to the theory that in order to write something well you need to read a lot of it. I have read and re-read my favorites (e. e. cummings, T. S. Eliot, Emily Dickinson, Sylvia Plath) for years, but am always seeking to broaden my knowledge of poets, both classical and contemporary.
The myriad styles of creating poetry fascinate me, and I’m always willing to discuss methods of brainstorming, writing and editing poetry. Though certainly raw talent is useful, it is not the only tool necessary to become a successful poet, and often needs practice and schooling to hone. The best way to do that, in my opinion, is to read read read and then write write write.
A little more about me: I graduated from Willamette University (Salem, OR) with a BA in English (emphasis: Creative Writing). I’m a dedicated traveler, and in the past few years have lived in four countries on three different continents. My current residence is Shanghai, China, a bustling international city full of amazing sights and contradictions. Every day is an inspiration to my writing, no matter where I am in the world.
