Take a look at our selection of champagnes that will help make any special occasion even more special.
There are times in your life when you want sparkling wine that celebrates a special occasion. Something a bit fancier than the $3 bottle of sparkling wine you can pick up at the local gas station. Here is a selection of five that will make the day stand out:
- Roederer Estate specializes in sparkling wines. They made the 1995 Cristal Rosé Champagne, considered by some finest Champagne ever made, available to you for $349 a bottle. Fortunately the Roederer Estate in Anderson Valley, California has champagne available to most of us. This Brut Rosé wine is dry and light, with aromas of plum and raspberry. It is almost a 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir and chardonnay. It has consistently reviewed well and received scores in the 90s. A $20 sparkling wine that tastes better than many expensive Champagnes.
- Iron Horse Classic Vintage Brut. This is a traditional blend of 65% Pinot Noir and 35% chardonnay. This Iron Horse sparkling wine is considered a food work horse. It goes with almost anything from abalone to zabaglione. Pair it with grilled dishes, spicy dishes, or fresh fruit. It too has consistently reviewed well and received scores in the 90s. Expect to pay about $21.
- Pol Roger Brut is a Champagne house founded in Epernay in 1849. One of Pol Roger's most exuberant fans was Sir Winston Churchill. He named one of his race horses Pol Roger. Church hill declared, "In defeat I need it; in victory I deserve it." You can enjoy this mature, round, delicate and long finishing Champagne anytime. Serve as an apéritif or as an accompaniment to cream soups, oysters, seafood, caviar, soufflés or strawberries. You can buy one of the greats for $25-$30.
- The Laurent-Perrier Cuvee Rosé Brut is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes. It is a glorious pink color. Even if you do not care for Rosé Champagne give this one a try. It is a favorite at Windsor Castle for a reason. It is the world's best selling Rosé Champagne. The berry and honeysuckle flavors come through this dry wine. Perfect for that summer toast. Expect to spend about $45.
As you can see. It's possible to have the finest Champagnes for your special occasions and not break the bank.
