Sometimes, however, one can get blocked in laying out a page. Even with all the ideas and products available, there are times when you just can’t work a page out. This is where templates and sketches work wonders. Templates and sketches are awesome in that you can make pages easily and effortlessly and concentrate on the important parts, the elements, the papers, the journaling, and the photographs.
Sketches and templates are basically patterns for your page layout that help you in placing photographs and elements and sometimes paper. Sketches are basic drawings to help with placement. Templates can be many things. It can be the cutting patterns or it can even be the digital layout so that all you would have to do is to clip your digital papers (within your computer layout program such as Photoshop or CorelDraw) to the template itself, making it easier than ever to complete your scrapbook.
With a sketch, you can see how best to place your photographs and various elements on the page. Using the drawing, move all your pieces to replicate the sketch. Below is a jpg sketch of two template freebies from ViVa Artistry. You can also download the complete file including full size jpgs, psd files (for graphics programs) and samples to show you the original.

With these templates, you can use them in Photoshop. They are set up in layers so that you can place your digital photos, papers, and elements and move them around within the program. The templates are sized for 12x12 papers and saved as 300 ppi for printing purposes.
