One of my favorite comfort foods is hot cocoa on a cold day! Sitting by the fire or snuggled into a corner of the couch with a good movie or book nothing is better except for a variety of great flavors to include! Try these flavorful varieties.
Basic Hot Cocoa Mix
2 cups nonfat dry milk powder
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1/2 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup powdered nondairy creamer
1/8 teaspoon salt
Measure all of the ingredients into a mixing bowl and whisk them until they are evenly blended.
Store the mix in a tightly covered container at room temperature until you're ready to package it. Makes about 4 cups of mix. Spoon 3 or 4 generous tablespoons of cocoa mix into your cup (depending on the size), add boiling water, and stir well. Add a few candy stirrers or spoons & mini marshmallows for a cute gift.
French Vanilla Cocoa Mix
10 1/2 C. Dry Milk
4 C. Confectioner's Sugar
2 8 oz. Jars of French Vanilla Flavored Non-Dairy Powdered Creamer
3 1/2 C. Chocolate Mix for Milk (Nestle's Quick)
2 3/4 C. Non-Dairy Powedered Creamer
1/2 tsp Salt
Combine all ingredients and store in an air-tight container. This recipe will yield approximately 8 pint size gift jars.
Attach the following directions in a card:
Combine 3 heaping tablespoons of cocoa mix into hot water or milk
Some great flavor suggestions would include, marshmallows, caramel, coffee, raspberry, mint or cinnamon for variety. Toffee bits, peanut butter and peppermints also make interesting combinations when sprinkled into cocoa. Try different flavors and come up with your "custom" recipe to give for gifts at holidays. Everyone will adore this!
