This season’s crop of TV releases doesn’t include much hard-core scifi TV, but does boast lots of cool animated series and superheroes. I’m especially interested in the release of 1975/1986’s “The Ghost Busters”; this Saturday morning live action series from Filmation preceded the 1980s movie and had a group of three going around busting ghosts, vampires and other supernatural forces with a Dematerializer. It had very little relation to what became the movie with Dan Akroyd and Bill Murray, but enjoyed a revival as Filmation’s Ghostbusters in 1986 as a result of “The Ghostbusters”’ popularity. The newer animated show featured the offspring of the original threesome. Remember how there were two animated “Ghostbusters” series on TV at the same time (the other was “The Real Ghostbusters”)? This explains why. I’m also looking forward to “The Powerpuff Girls.” It’s about time they released the episodes by season.

There are those who say “Stargate Atlantis” is even better than the original “Stargate SG-1,” which was cancelled by the SciFi Channel recently. If that’s true, it’s partly due to the second season of the series (2005-2006). The focus remains on the Wraith, those white-haired enemies who have a constant need to feed on humans, with plenty of action and a few new characters to add conflict. A lot of extras are included on this five-disc, 20 episode DVD set, which makes it a great deal if you like the “Stargate” universe at all.
