Anna was born on June 7, 1981 to Sergei and Alla Kournikova, and received her first tennis racquet at age 5. Her parents both encouraged her strongly to be athletic and it rubbed off. She was soon a member of a local Moscow tennis club, being coached by a pro.
By age 9 she was getting international attention, and at age 11 she moved to Florida to train in Nick Bolletierri's tennis camp there. She went pro by age 15. She is currently ranked 55th and had reached 8th in 2000. In 1999 she was on the highest ranking doubles team.
What makes Anna stand out, however, is not necessarily her standings, but her natural beauty and her modelling instincts. Anna graces many a calendar cover and magazine cover, and her photo is one of the most sought after on the internet.
