Follow-up to Terrariums and Wardian Cases

I received a number of interesting emails concerning the article on terrariums, Wardian Cases and conservatories. One of them was really intriguing and I wanted to pass the new information along to those interested in the concept. A fourth type of indoor growing area I completely missed mentioning was the vivarium which often incorporates living creatures such as fish and amphibians into the environment. As an added bonus, many vivariums are designed to be extremely decorative as well as being an environment for plants and animals.

I found a lovely website in The Netherlands, Vivaria that shows a number of possible applications and some well designed special installations.

The November 2005 American Orchid Society bulletin, Orchids has an article entitled "Rainforest Window" which is very interesting for those who can get a copy of it. They also mentioned several websites which are helpful.

GardenWeb Forum on Terrariums where you an ask for information and help on growing in terrariums.

An Erratic Life with Orchids a webpage done by Ralph Taggert showing how he built his own Wardian Cases and the plants that worked for him.
