In Anne McCaffrey's No One Noticed the Cat, young Prince Jamas is just about to take his place on the throne when his regent, the magician Mangan, dies. Mangan has left behind his cat, Niffy who take a liking to the prince. Eventually Jamas come to trust the cat and even seek out his advice on matters of state, as well as well as whom to marry. Although many find his reliance on Niffy a bit odd, it proves valuable when an ambitious queen threatens his life.

em>No One Noticed the Cat is a cute little fairy tale and at just over 100 pages long it's a quick read. This book captures the wonder of a children's tale with a villainous queen, a gallant prince and a happy ending. Although the plot is somewhat predictable and the ending is obvious, the writing carries the story. In addition to the convincing world McCaffrey creates, she has done a wonderful job of illustrating the nature of cats in Niffy's behaviors and mannerisms.

My Recommendation
No On Noticed the Cat by Anne McCaffrey is a nice tale for both children and adults. This title would make a great addition to any fantasy collection and like any good fairytale this story is fun to reread every now and then. I recommend picking up you own copy (or at least borrowing one from the library) and finding out for yourself.
