Hong Kong Local Travel - Hong Kong Escalator

Hong Kong has an unique method of local travel. Travel from Central Hong Kong to the Mid-Levels via an escalator. Yes, an escalator!

Hong Kong has the world’s longest-covered escalator. It is 800 meters long. The residents use the escalator to travel during the rush hour. It fact, the escalator only runs downhill from 6:00 A.M. to 10:00 A. M., not uphill, just to get them to work. It starts to run uphill from 10:20 A.M. to Midnight to get them home.

The best time for tourists to travel on the escalator is during off peak times. It is less crowded. Try this fun mode of transportation.

The twenty-minute ride gives the visitor a view of the city and harbor. Stand and watch a view of the city.

The escalator starts on Des Voeux Street. It stops midway up the island on Conduit Street. Take a ride and amaze your friends with tales of the ride.

The escalator is a great mode of local travel. Try it as well as the Star Ferry, MTR and the Victoria Peak Tram while vacationing. Don’t forget to purchase a travel card. The card will allow inexpensive local travel. Keep the card as a souvenir of your Hong Kong visit.
