Sonoma Train Town

Traintown Clock TowerSituated on 10 acres just outside the down town area of Sonoma, CA lies a one and a quarter mile scale railroad adventure. Board the steam train at the station and take a ride to Lakeview, a miniature town complete with a chapel, petting zoo and a new fort play structure. You’ll travel over five trestles and bridges and through two tunnels on this fun train ride.

Once you’ve taken the train ride, check out several vintage amusement rides. Train Town has a carousel, ferris wheel, swings, roller coaster and more. There’s also an airplane ride just for the little ones. Our youngest was very excited to discover he is tall enough to ride the roller coaster unaccompanied. Be prepared to wait a bit if you’re little ones are interested in the rides. On our last visit there were only three ride operators running the six rides.

Another part of Train Town that our boys have enjoyed is exploring three full sized cabooses that date back to the 30’s and 40’s. These train cars have wood stoves and observation areas. One of them has been newly appointed with video games. There is a 47-foot clock tour that offers a great vantage point for viewing the train yard, pond and the ferris wheel.

Pond & Carousel If you get hungry while you’re visiting Train Town, stop into the concession stand for popcorn, cotton candy and other treats. The concession stand also sells souvenirs of your visit to Train Town, including t-shirts, train whistles and more. Snacks are moderately priced and you can sit at picnic tables while you eat.

For the littlest visitors to Train Town there are also coin operated rides, including a galloping horse, a stagecoach and a train engine. There is also an air hockey table.

Steam Train & RoundhouseTrain Town is a fun and affordable family destination. Train rides cost $3.75 per person and ride tickets can be purchased for $1.75 each or 8 tickets for $10. There is no fee to enter the park and you can roam the grounds or explore the cabooses for free.

Visit Train Town online for more information and to check their seasonal hours, or give them a call at (707) 938-3912.
