Portkey in Harry Potter Books

A portkey is a transportation device, a time portal. It used by wizards to travel from one place to the next. A spell is on an object, any object will do. The wizard must make contact within a certain time period. Whosh, the wizard arrives at one's desired destination.

Harry Potter and friends use a portkey to travel to the Quidditch World Cup. This is in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Professor Albus Dumbledore creates a portkey. He and Harry use it to travel to Hogwarts. They make the journey to Hogarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in a blink of the eye.
