Misessence Product Review

I recently had the opportunity to try a few products from Miessence. For those that are unaware, Misessence is company that offers a variety of beauty products which are all certified organic in not only Australia, the company’s home base, but in the U.S. and Europe as well.

What drew me to try the products from this company is that they are environmentally conscious, supporting the David Suziki Foundation. They also conducting studies to calculate their freight emissions which in turn plant trees to offset the impact their freight emissions have on the environment. Even their production facility claims zero emissions by using wind powered electricity. They are constantly breaking new ground and setting the bar high for other companies to follow in their footsteps in making a conscious effort to reduce our impact on the environment.

That’s great, good to hear, but do their products work?

I had the opportunity to try their gentle exfoliant, dessert flower shampoo, shine herbal hair conditioner as well as their sunflower body wash. With all the above products I loved the scent, it was fresh and clean smelling without being overpowering. That is a plus in my book, I do not like my beauty product scents to compete with my perfume.

Gentle Exfoliant
The main ingredients in this product are aloe vera juice and jojoba wax beads. The benefits of aloe vera are soothing and calming and the jojoba beads are gentler than other scrubs that have ground shells in them which can irritate the skin. You do not need a lot of this product a dime size amount is enough to cleanse your entire face.

When I first put the exfoliant in my hand I had serious doubts that this would work. I’m used to using something strong like sandpaper, I need to feel that abrasiveness scraping the dead skin cells off my face. This was a nice surprise. It was gentle, it was soothing and my skin did not feel tight afterwards. It exfoliated without stripping my skin.

Cost $28.95/120g

Dessert Flower Shampoo (normal to dry hair)
The difference between natural and commercial products became apparent here. I am used to using a shampoo that lathers instantly and creates enough suds to fill a washing maching. Not so with this product. It does lather but due to the natural ingredient do not expect it to lather the way a commercial shampoo does. I did love the scent, and I did love how clean my hair felt.

Cost $20.95/250 ml

Shine Herbal Hair Conditioner (for all hair types)
The main ingredients are aloe vera juice, olive oil and apple cider vinegar. This was my first time using an all natural product. I found that it did not condition my hair well. My hair was tangled and did not feel very soft.
It must noted that my hair is chemically treated and this could also have been due to my hair going though a hair detox. It is stated on their website that when you first begin using their hair products you may experience dryer and knottier hair than normal. This will improve with time. I didn’t have the chance to try if for a long enough period of time to verify the accuracy of that statement in regards to my hair.

Cost $20.95/250mL

Sunflower Body Wash
The main ingredients are aloe vera juice, sunflower seed oil, lemon, lime and bitter orange oil. This was a very fresh clean scent. It was invigorating to use and really woke me up in the morning. What I liked was that it left my skin feeling soft not stripped. I also like that although the scent was of citrus and filled my shower with its clean scent, my skin did not absorb the scent, which is good because the last thing I would want is to be smelling like a citrus orchard.

Cost
$16.95/250mL

The cost of the products may seem prohibitive, however a little product goes a long way and Miessence’s price is comparable with other mid to up-scale brands. The difference is that Miessence is all natural and most products are certified organic.

My top pick was the exfoliant. It did a great job, I did not need a lot of product and the after-effects was a face with a clean fresh glow.

For those looking for an all natural organic skin care company, Mieseence might be the brand for you.
