Merlot

What makes this one of the worlds most popular wines?

This friendly wine has characteristics that are pleasing to the eye, nose, and tongue. The Merlot grape produces wines with deep ruby colors, full body, smooth tannins and high alcohol. It is also softer than other reds, which makes it a good introduction to red wines.

You will find aromas and flavors of chocolate, plums, dark cherries, and currant. When you open a bottle of Merlot give it time to breathe. This will open up the flavors and aromas. A good example of this wine is the Clos LaChance Central Coast Merlot, 2002. Will experience a well balanced, well structured wine for under $18.

Merlot is perhaps the world's most planted grape. It is the most planted grape in Bordeaux, France. Often you will find blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The lower tannins of Merlot help to soften the roughness of Cabernet.
