To maintain balance (homeostasis), fluids in your body shift constantly between compartments, exchanging nutrients and waste products. Your ingested food is transported from the bloostream to the cells to build new cells. Waste products from digestion are transported from cells to the bloodstream for removal from the body in the kidneys, liver, lungs and skin.
Osmosis is one of the factors that help you to regulate this shift etween compaarments. It is a transport mechanism that allows movement of water from an area containing a lesser concentration of particles to an area of greater concentration of particles.
An example: Consider ordinary table salt as a gargle for your sore throat. The salt particles in the water create an osmotic force that draws fluid from tissues and reduces swelling.
