Mary Kay was born on May 12th in Texas. With her soft spoken southern accent, she was a delight to hear anytime she spoke. Mind you, she wasn’t a pushover; she was a very well educated, learned businesswoman. She knew what she was talking about; she just said it in a gentle way.
She believed not in berating people, but praising people to success. If a salesperson sold $15 worth of cosmetics, instead of the $10 she normally sold, that act was praised. No accomplishment was too small to be noticed for Mary Kay. The Golden Rule ruled the company and her philosophy was and still is; “God first, family second, career third”.
In addition to cosmetics, fragrances are also part of the Mary Kay line. Four new eau de toilette fragrances were just introduced in 2008. We may or may not agree on what these scents trigger in our minds, but here is my version:
WARM AMBER: This scent is a little spicy, warm, and rich. It will remind you of autumn all year round. A great rich scent to wear in the wintertime as well.
SPARKLING HONEYSUCKLE: Very much a floral, this scent is on the romantic side. This brings to mind a perfect light scent for spring and summer when you want to feel feminine, but cool.
SIMPLY COTTON: Refreshing, crisp, clean and relaxing all at the same time. It reminds you of freshly washed and dried sheets, and brings back cherished memories of summer.
EXOTIC PASSIONFRUIT: Fruity, zesty, ripe are all words I would use to describe this perfume. It should be perfect for younger people and those who like citrus scents.
The following are eau de parfum fragrances in the Mary Kay line:
AFFECTION: Pink peppercorn is among the fragrance mix in this relatively new offering. It is described as a modern oriental chypre. When you wear it, you will definitely notice its lasting power.
BELARA: This scent is described as having florals and creamy notes. It can possibly remind one of biting into a rich caramel square.
BELLA BELARA: Just as nice as the Belara scent, this has more of a floral and fruity scent as in the description. If you like fruity scents, but also want to be more romantic, try this one on for size.
ELIGE: An oriental fragrance with notes of lily and sandalwood. It isn’t too outspoken in its scent, but just enough to give an “edge”.
JOURNEY: A delightfully floral fragrance that reminds you of a romantic summer day.
VELOCITY: A scent for the young or young at heart. This has fruit combined with floral notes. This is very uplifting and refreshing; almost like having a tropical breeze all year long.
Mary Kay products are sold exclusively through independent beauty consultants near you. They also have a fragrance and skin care line for men.
In September of 1963, with a savings of $5,000, Mary Kay Ash the company that bears her name, with her son, Richard Rogers. She opened her own business to show herself and other women that a woman could indeed reach success in the business world. Even though Mary Kay left us in November of 2001, as long as there are pink Cadillacs driving down the road, the lesson is still being taught and mastered.
