R.H Phillips EXP Syrah

Looking for a wine that can stand up to your grilled steaks? This is it!

For my anniversary this past week my husband and I decided to stay in. I grilled a porter house steak, made a fennel salad, made a radicchio salad, and had sour dough bread from a local bakery. The hardest decision was selecting a wine to accompany the steak. Do I go with something new and expensive? Do I go with a favorite? I opted for a favorite in my collection.

The EXP Syrah was an excellent choice! With its jammy fruit and spice flavors it held its own, but also added to the flavors of the other dishes.

It is a deep, rich red wine. The color promises lush flavors. That promise is fulfilled with crushed berry flavors, and aromas of lavender and chocolate. This Syrah has a full feeling in your mouth with a fine toasty, medium finish.

Not surprisingly, the EXP Syrah has done well at competitions. It won the Gold Medal at the 2003 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. "Oh, sounds expensive" you say? No. It's a great buy at $12. My advise is to go out and buy a case. It will take you through the gruelling grilling months of summer, and into the crisp autumn months. Try and save a bottle. You will enjoy the full, lingering flavors during the winter cold. It is a great choice for an anniversary dinner or sharing with friends in front of a fire.

Special from Geerlings & Wade!
