Do You Worry About Money

It’s been said when it comes to money there are two types of people in this world – those who worry about money and those who don’t. If surveys are correct, somewhere around 95 percent of us worry about money. So what can we do to stop the worrying and find some peace? Here are a few suggestions.

Money and worry seem to go hand-in-hand. Why do we spend so much time worrying instead of finding financial peace? The newspapers and news programs don’t help much do they do? Or the negative money myths we learned during childhood? Or, if we’re in a relationship, the money worries of the other person are often transferred to us and now we both worry?

Looking at it that way, it’s no wonder we worry!

Here are four simple suggestions that may help eliminate some worry:

1. Get a financial advisor to take care of your money.

A financial advisor will analyze your current financial situation and help you develop a plan for controlling your money and maybe even growing your money. In other words, you pay a financial advisor to worry about your money so you won’t have to.

2. Stop watching the news channels and reading the newspapers.
In this electronic age of text messaging and a TV screen in almost every venue (including banks), it’s virtually impossible not hear about the state of the economy. How about closing your ears to the news and focusing on your own financial situation. Focus positive energy on making your financial goals a reality. Sit down with your accountant, financial advisor or yourself and work out a financial plan to alleviate the worry, no matter the economy.

3. Organize your financial life.
Often worry and disorganization can go hand-in-hand. Is it time to organize your finances? Here’s where to start: Organize your wallet-yes, I really did say organize your wallet. The less you carry the less you can lose or misplace.
  • Organize your money as you place it in your wallet – small bills in front to larger bills in the back. Make it a habit to place your bills in the right location every time you place money in your wallet.

  • At the end of the day place all loose change in a piggy bank. You’ll be surprised how much you’ll save in six months.

  • Each credit and ATM card should have its own place in your wallet. After a card is used, it should go back into its specific location. Why? So when you open your wallet you can immediately see that everything is in its place and nothing was left on a store counter.

  • File, toss or shred your receipts. If you need certain receipts for tax or accounting purposes file them. The rest, throw away or shred. You don’t need a wallet overflowing old receipts.

  • 4. Start a money diary/journal.
If you wonder where the money went, start keeping track of your spending. You can do this on computer software like Quicken or an old fashion journal. Either way, you’ll have a visual record of the money coming in and money going out. The key is being proactive with your finances, not reactive. Worry often begins with not knowing all the facts – you can eliminate that worry by keeping good records.

You’ll have less worry about money when you manage your finances and you don’t allow your finances to manage you. Deciding to take action is often the first step toward finding viable and workable solutions. Are you ready to live without worry and find greater peace of mind? It all begins with deciding to do something positive about the financial negatives in your life.
